These homemade biscuits are a perfect addition to any meal, with their soft and fluffy texture and buttery flavor. They’re best served warm, straight out of the oven, with a dollop of butter or a drizzle of honey. These biscuits pair beautifully with breakfast, soups, or as a comforting side to your dinner.
- Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into cubes
- 3/4 cup whole milk (plus more for brushing)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
- Add the cold butter cubes to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Pour in the milk and vanilla extract (if using), and stir just until combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead a few times until it comes together.
- Roll the dough out to about 1-inch thickness. Use a biscuit cutter or a glass to cut out rounds of dough.
- Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet, close together for soft sides or spaced apart for crispier edges.
- Brush the tops of the biscuits with a little milk for a golden finish.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and allow the biscuits to cool slightly before serving.
