Fluffy and Buttery Homemade Biscuits

These homemade biscuits are a perfect addition to any meal, with their soft and fluffy texture and buttery flavor. They’re best served warm, straight out of the oven, with a dollop of butter or a drizzle of honey. These biscuits pair beautifully with breakfast, soups, or as a comforting side to your dinner.

  1. Ingredients:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into cubes
  • 3/4 cup whole milk (plus more for brushing)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  3. Add the cold butter cubes to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Pour in the milk and vanilla extract (if using), and stir just until combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead a few times until it comes together.
  6. Roll the dough out to about 1-inch thickness. Use a biscuit cutter or a glass to cut out rounds of dough.
  7. Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet, close together for soft sides or spaced apart for crispier edges.
  8. Brush the tops of the biscuits with a little milk for a golden finish.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
  10. Remove from the oven and allow the biscuits to cool slightly before serving.
