- Ingredients:
- 1 box chocolate cake mix (plus ingredients required on the box)
- 1 cup caramel sauce (divided)
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1 cup chocolate frosting
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Preheat the oven according to the cake mix instructions and prepare two 9-inch round cake pans with cooking spray.
- Prepare the chocolate cake mix as directed on the box and divide the batter evenly between the two pans.
- Bake according to package instructions. Once baked, let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Once cooled, place one cake layer on a serving plate. Drizzle half of the caramel sauce over the top and sprinkle with half of the chopped pecans.
- Place the second cake layer on top and spread the chocolate frosting over the top and sides of the cake.
- In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream until just simmering. Remove from heat and stir in the remaining caramel sauce and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Drizzle the caramel mixture over the frosted cake and top with the remaining chopped pecans.
- Serve immediately or refrigerate until ready to serve.
