Marble Swirl Purple Velvet Cake

The Marble Swirl Purple Velvet Cake is a stunning dessert that combines the rich, velvety texture of classic red velvet with a playful and vibrant purple hue. The marble swirl effect gives it a unique, artistic look, while the cream cheese frosting adds a creamy, tangy finish that complements the cake perfectly.

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons purple food coloring (or natural purple juice)
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar

Cream Cheese Frosting:

  • 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 9-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  6. Divide the batter evenly into two bowls. To one bowl, add the purple food coloring and mix until fully combined. In the other bowl, whisk in the cocoa powder.
  7. Alternately spoon the purple and chocolate batter into the prepared cake pans. Using a knife or skewer, swirl the two batters together to create a marble effect.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  9. While the cakes are cooling, prepare the cream cheese frosting. Beat the cream cheese and butter together until smooth and creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, and beat until fluffy.
  10. Once the cakes have cooled, spread a layer of cream cheese frosting on top of one cake layer, then place the second cake layer on top. Frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining cream cheese frosting.
  11. Optional: Garnish with purple sprinkles or edible flowers for a stunning presentation.
