Apple Turnovers are the ultimate treat for pastry lovers and home bakers alike. With their buttery, flaky crust and warm, cinnamon-spiced apple filling, these turnovers are both comforting and irresistible.
Ingredients:
- 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
- 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Powdered sugar for garnish (optional)
Directions:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, combine the diced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, flour, and vanilla extract. Toss until the apples are well coated.
- Roll out the puff pastry sheets on a floured surface and cut each into four squares.
- Place a spoonful of the apple mixture in the center of each square. Fold the pastry diagonally to form a triangle, pressing the edges together to seal. Use a fork to crimp the edges.
- Brush the tops of the turnovers with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
- Arrange the turnovers on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 18-22 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
- Let cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar if desired. Serve warm or at room temperature.
