Juicy Pan-Seared Steaks with Rich Onion Gravy

  1. Ingredients:
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tsp thyme (optional)

Directions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, finely chopped onion, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
  2. Form the mixture into 4 patties.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of butter. Cook the patties for 4-5 minutes per side until browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of butter and the sliced onions. Cook for 5-6 minutes, stirring occasionally, until caramelized.
  5. Sprinkle the flour over the onions and stir for 1-2 minutes to cook off the raw flour taste.
  6. Gradually add beef broth, stirring constantly until smooth and thickened. Add thyme, if desired.
  7. Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet, spoon gravy over them, and simmer for 5 minutes to let the flavors meld.
