Candied Pecans

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups raw pecans
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for spice)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons water

Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, salt, butter, vanilla extract, and water. Stir over medium heat until the sugars dissolve, and the mixture comes to a gentle simmer.
  3. Add the pecans to the saucepan and toss them in the sugar mixture until fully coated.
  4. Spread the coated pecans in an even layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Bake for 20-25 minutes, stirring halfway through, until the pecans are golden brown and fragrant.
  6. Remove from the oven and let cool completely on the baking sheet. The pecans will harden as they cool, becoming perfectly crispy.
