Chinese Pepper Steak with Onions

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 bell peppers (green or red), sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 1/4 cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Cooked white rice, for serving

Directions:

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the soy sauce, oyster sauce, rice vinegar, and cornstarch. Add the sliced flank steak and toss to coat. Let it marinate for 15-20 minutes.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated steak and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, heat the remaining 1 tablespoon of oil. Add the sliced onion, bell peppers, garlic, and ginger. Stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are tender but still crisp.
  4. Return the steak to the skillet, add the beef broth, sugar, and black pepper. Stir well to combine all the flavors.
  5. Let it cook for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the meat and vegetables.
  6. Serve hot over a bed of cooked white rice.
